The Laguna's building has a new tenant, and the menu is different
The corner that sat as Laguna's Beach Bar & Grill has reopened as Baja Coastal Kitchen, which opened on Pensacola Beach in March 2026 after a full remodel, rebrand, and all-new menu in the former Laguna's space. If you drove past during the buildout and wondered whether it would just be Laguna's with fresh paint, it is not. Bands on the Beach: same Tuesday, mostly new bands
The 2026 Bands on the Beach season is longer than usual and heavier on debuts. The series returns to Pensacola Beach April 7 with The Calverts and wraps October 27 with Horseshoe Kitty, running every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gulfside Pavilion at Casino Beach, 20 Casino Beach Blvd. The Santa Rosa Island Authority booked what it described as a mix of rock, country, Americana, reggae, funk, brass, and tribute performances, with returning favorites joined by a strong slate of first-time performers.

The July 14 show is the one to note. It falls inside Air Show Week, which means the pavilion crowd will be dense with visitors two days before the Blues take the sky. If you like the walk-up, park-once habit that makes Tuesdays easy, that particular week is the one to skip or plan around. A free trolley ride to the concerts is available aboard the Pensacola Beach Trolley, which becomes the sane option once the island fills up.
Air Show Week is a four-day event, not a Saturday
Here is the piece that catches people who moved to the island in the last two or three years. The Pensacola Beach Air Show is Saturday on paper. In practice, the airspace is spoken for from Wednesday morning through Saturday afternoon.

Two things about this year in particular. First, the celebration coincides with America's 250th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the US Navy Blue Angels, so expect the visitor draw to run above a normal show weekend. Second, the civilian pre-show is unusually stacked. Alongside the Blues, Aaron Fitzgerald is flying a helicopter aerobatic performance with Red Bull Air Force, blending technical mastery with high-energy showmanship, and Carol Pilon with Third Strike Wingwalking will perform atop a vintage open-cockpit Stearman WWII biplane.
If you live west of the show center, the boardwalk side, know that Casino Beach is show center, and the best views will be from that beach where all the big maneuvers will be performed. Your side street will still be jammed. Your back deck, if it faces Gulf, is worth a chair and a cooler on Thursday afternoon rather than fighting Saturday. Thursday's 2 p.m. practice is the local's secret weapon.
A practical note: drones are strictly prohibited during air show waiver hours, and if you were thinking about aerial photos from the yard, do not. Any drone inside a five-mile radius of the flight zone pauses the show.
July 4 is the crowded one, not July 18
This is the thesis if the post has one. The Blue Angels weekend feels like the pinch point in a normal year. In 2026, the pinch point is July 4 itself, because the holiday lands on Saturday and America 250 is stacked on top.
Downtown will absorb a large share of the crowd. The Pensacola Beach Fourth of July Fireworks show will take place at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, along the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk and Santa Rosa Sound, and Pensacola Beach is celebrating with the two-day Red, White & Beach Bash at Gulfside Pavilion and the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk, with live music, local vendors, family activities, and fireworks over Santa Rosa Sound.
If you want to watch fireworks without parking, there are two off-sand options worth knowing:
- Glow Paddle is offering a special nighttime kayaking experience during the Pensacola Beach fireworks on Saturday, July 4 at 9 p.m. from 165 Fort Pickens Road; guests launch in clear kayaks illuminated with LED lights and enjoy the fireworks from the water. No kayaking experience is required, but availability is limited and the event is expected to sell out.
- The Frisky Mermaid is running a Fourth of July boat cruise for guests who want to watch the fireworks from the water, boarding behind Shaggy's on a 52-foot vessel with an open bow, shaded mid-deck, and climate-controlled interior; guests should arrive 30 minutes before departure.
For the neighbors who like their fireworks with a chair and no plan, The Landing at Red Fish Blue Fish is hosting a VIP waterfront cookout overlooking the Sound and Pensacola Beach fireworks. It is not the free option, but it removes every parking and access problem you would otherwise deal with that night.
Morgan Park comes back into rotation
Quieter, but real. Morgan Park, a tranquil oasis amid the commercial core on Pensacola Beach filled with native flora, is completing an overall renovation to revitalize the park. For anyone who walks the island in the early morning or takes visiting family somewhere shaded that is not the sand, it is worth checking on before you write the summer off as pure asphalt-and-crowds.

The Bayfront Parkway closure from Barracks Street to Chase Street begins at 2:00 p.m., fireworks launch from a barge off the east side of the Port of Pensacola, and boats must remain at least 1,000 feet from the launch site.
